BoS, the Bombay Sapphire Martini Horn
Like the Bombay Sapphire bottle, Bos is an unusually compelling blend of classical and modern elements blended into one form. Resembling the bowed shaped light gleaming from the bottom of a martini glass cone, Bos' simple yet dynamic form language draws its inspiration from the historic Viking mead horn. The Viking mead horn, which was made from an aurochs (bos taurus) horn, was a celebrated symbol of excellence and status in the Viking culture, much like today's martini glass. By fusing the mead horn's form language with the modernist need for simplicity and function, Bos crystallizes into something completely new - born from two worlds thousands of years apart.
Bos is all about expression
Bos consists of a rounded rectilinear extrusion, bowed and tapered from one larger opening to a smaller one. The glass thickness actually changes from the larger opening to the smaller opening, thin to thick respectively, to help keep the rock-able nature of the martini glass perfectly level when filled with the optimal amount of liquid. But when the liquid level in the glass is not at optimum, Bos does something truly unique. It indicates the liquid level by changing its stance. If Bos is filled above optimal level, the larger end pensively bows down, as if to say you fed it too much. Yet, when the level is below optimum, the larger end of the martini glass rises up to eagerly inform the user it is time to refill. Now, both ends of Bos are open to allow the user to drink from either side, enabling the user to interact with the glass in either way he or she sees fit. By drinking from the larger end, the user presents an appearance of a more powerful and forceful person while if they choose to drink from the smaller end, he or she will exude a sense of control and refinement. In fact, another advantage to having both ends of the glass open allows either end to take or release air to fill its volume, which alleviates the gurgling affect a liquid sometimes encounters leaving a trapped space. This little bit of engineering allows the user to rock the glass back and forth, mixing the liquid freely and smoothly. Finally, when the user is ready to drink from the glass, whether they are cradling the glass in one hand or two, creates a triumphant and elegant pose. Whether you choose to show your civility or let your inner Viking out, Bos allows you to express yourself uniquely in a manner befitting a world class Bombay Sapphire martini.
Bos is unique.
